NHL 2000 is the best NHL game ever made for every platform. It's various modes such as it's season that you can continue until the year 2008 with Rookie Draft, Free Agent Draft, and Retirement make it far and away the best.
GAMEPLAY
It's Gameplay is extra-ordinary. Rink detail, crowd detail, chants, it all makes you feel like you are right in the game. Multi-player allows you to play along with your friends, or join an on-line league. Massive checks. Super saves. Highlight Goals. Create your own player to compete on your favorite team while you compete for the Stanley Cup. Import your own face, too!
Controls for the Gravis GamePad are so easy it's ridicolus. The Keyboard, though, I haven't tried. My guess is don't try the keyboard unless you know it inside out and backwards.
More severe and different penalties and the players arguing with the refs make it a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Up-to-date rosters make it even better. The annuncers throwing in little tidbits between whistles is cool.
In Season Mode, the CPU makes and proposes trades by itself, Waivers, Stat Tracking, Awards presented at the end of each season. Another good part is the trade must be fair for the computer to accept it.
And the ever so famous Special Move button. Players like Jaromir Jagr and Paul Kariya put moves on the D and Goalie like never before. The only bad thing is, the fights are nowhere as good as NHL 98. and there is no blood in the fights.

GRAPHICS
The graphics are just da bomb. Best I've ever seen in ANY sports game. Totally realistic faces match each and every player in the game. The graphics make body checks look like two freight trains colliding. The crowd is more realistic, and can be seen standing up when the camera focuses on them.
The arenas look like the real thing. Fighting is the only down part ot the graphics. Pure brutality. Nowhere near NHL 98 in fighting. If you buy the game just for the fighting, this is not for you. Also, you need a good computer. Minimum requirements will not do. Overall, best graphical game ever in NHL gaming history.

AUDIO
The sound is the best. The sound of the players arguing with the refs in actual English, unlike The Sims who talk gibberish. The sound of a goalie making a save, the blades gliding along the ice, music blaring through the rink makes you feel like an actual spectator or player.
But nothing beats the announcers. The play-by-play is awesome, explaining every detail. Telling historical facts, interesting team and player facts, player and team stats, trivia. Color Commentary. It's all wicked. I have never seen such great audio in one video game.
